The total maximum number of points that can be earned is 28 points for Service Area residents and 26 points for out-of-service-area residents. All students must submit a copy of the following immunizations with a valid stamp or signature, signed statement from a physician, or lab report indicating serologic immunity.

Please note that some of these immunizations take up to six months to complete. If unable to complete the series before beginning of class, the applicant is not eligible for admission. Due to compliance with clinical facility requirements and the Texas Department of Health recommendations, GC Health Science programs may not waiver immunization requirements for any reason.

If immunizations are not complete, application to the program must be delayed. Students should provide a copy of the records. Please do not turn in the originals. Immunization Providers. This includes submitting official copies of transcripts from each college or university previously attended to the Office of Admissions and Records and a copy of the transcripts to the ADN program.

Prerequisite and co-requisite general education courses will be accepted for transfer and application toward the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing if the course is evaluated as equivalent to the required course at GC.

Students wishing to transfer nursing courses should request an Information Packet at nursing grayson. Copies of course syllabi from all previous nursing courses must be submitted to the ADN Program Director to determine eligibility for transfer. Applicants must also provide a letter from the previous nursing program director stating that the applicant is currently passing and in good standing.

Applicants who have been unsuccessful in another nursing program are not eligible for admission to the GC nursing program. The mission of the Grayson College Associate Degree Nursing program is to prepare graduates to practice professional nursing in a variety of health related settings. The Nursing Faculty supports the vision, philosophy, and mission of Grayson College.

The Faculty believes that the community college provides an optimal setting for nursing education. The College provides an atmosphere in which nursing education is complemented through the study of other disciplines.

Within these roles, the registered nurse utilizes assessment and analytical skills to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. The registered nurse prepared at the Associate Degree level functions as a professional in both autonomous and collaborative practice. Nursing education is a continuous learning process empowering students to grow from learners to novice practitioners. To help achieve this, the program is built upon the ideas of cognitive constructivism to assist in the delivery of content and in student evaluations.

The faculty plan and facilitate learning experiences which promote the application and integration of concept-theoretical knowledge necessary to achieve the program outcomes.

Major concepts integrated throughout the program of learning include: professionalism, personal accountability, advocacy, clinical decision making, patient teaching, caring approach, skill competency, resource management, safety, risk reduction, communication, coordination, and collaboration. The program of study prepares graduates to demonstrate the essential competencies of graduates of Associate Degree Nursing Education Programs as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Opportunities are provided for individualized instruction, evaluation, guidance, and academic counseling, but the student is ultimately responsible for meeting learning outcomes and establishing a plan for lifelong learning as a professional.
